THE BIG GAME BOOK HUNT
S.A.
One of the best things about collecting books is hunting for them. Unlike other forms of hunting, nothing is harmed when you search for valuable or cherished books. Unlike most big Game hunting, books are rescued and saved to live another chapter in their (hopefully) long Life.
Some book hunters are naturally lucky - coming upon a treasured first printing of a much-desired book. I’ve heard of spectacular books falling off shelves into a searchers ‘hands. And other hunters putting their hand in the middle of a large pile of estate sale or thrift books and pulling out a Bukowski or a leather Browning in perfect condition.
So it seems there is often some magic to finding books by accident or in unexpected places - especially where their values have not yet been determined by eBay or Amazon.
The same skill set used in hunting for books can be used for hunting for any collectible your heart is set on.
Book hunting is an innocent addiction once you get the hang of it. And once your fingers grasp a first edition of Steinbeck or Dylan Thomas, or Vurginia Woolf, yourperspective changes. . And from that moment on, you are likely to become a big Game book hunter.
